About the wheelchair…
As said earlier, the wheelchair for dogs is a custom- made
product and is therefore available in any size from very small
to extra, extra large.
To make a solid construction without it being a heavy burden for
the dog to pull, we use lightweight materials like aluminiums
and plastics. The pneumatic tires, that enable the dog to walk
on paved roads as well as on gravel, banks, grassy plains, sandy
and woodland soils, are easy to fix yourself with an ordinary
bike-tire repair set in the event that they should go flat.
To make sure the wheelchair is easy in use for both owner and
dog and to optimize the fit, the front and back harnesses are
equipped with adjustable ribbons made from nylon, with buckles.
The harnesses are made from high-quality neoprene for
flexibility and comfort.
Using the
wheelchair…
It is our experience, that every dog condones the wheelchair and
(when put in it for the very first time) learns the basics of
handling within 15 minutes. However, estimating there new width
and making swift turns at running speed, take a bit longer.
After about a month exercising, every dog uses the wheelchair
like an extension of its own body. They will even, when the
situation calls for it, independently reverse to make a wider
bend.
We advise letting the dog use its hind legs in the wheelchair
for as long as possible. It is only when they start dragging,
that you can safely secure them in the hang-ups that will be
supplied together with the wheelchair.
On request and free of charge, we also equip the wheelchair with
a carrying device for stairs.
This will make it easier to carry the dog (not the wheelchair)
up the stairs if you have a very big/heavy dog.
The dog does not have to be lifted out of the wheelchair for
nature’s call. You will see, that he/she will instinctively
simply straighten his/her back and the deed is done. Even male
dogs can cope easily without lifting up a leg.
